Field & Garden: Autumn
- Dig carrots and parsnips after the first hard frost; they keep sweeter.
- Plant seed garlic by the end of October, pointed end up, a hand's width apart.
- Drain outside faucets and bring in hoses before November.
- Bank the north side of the house with leaves or hay before the cold sets in.
- Mark the edges of driveways and walks for the plow crews by the middle of November.
